A story of Gangland Democracy

There would be no better timing than the ongoing Bihar Assembly elections, to re-read, refer-back and review
E-Book is also available for download here.

While the book was originally written in English, I decided to go for the translated I felt the Hindi version would not only help brush-up my forgotten Hindi vocabulary but more importantly, reading about the Indian Politics (actually supposed to be a political fiction but it does reflect ground realities) that revolve around Bihar, would be simply fascinating. Accordingly, part of this post would have हिंदी lines as original quotes.

The book is aptly dedicated to the Indian Youth and Generation Next. I review this work here as I would like to recommend this as “must-read” for every Indian Voter - to get to know the ground realities of Indian Politics & the Elections. Politics is all about 'Perception' and this book takes us through the dirty, dangerous and very rough terrain of the political minefield starting from Bihar to New Delhi and delves deep through the Perceptions.

Below are a few excerpts from the book, just to sample a few anecdotes & definitions - some of you may find them to be a crude satire, hard-hitting and sarcastic.

THE COMMON MAN

During a conversation on Page 84-85, the protagonist - सत्य , describes the common man as follows:
ON POVERTY ~ The Poor People

ON ELECTION EXPENSES

A very detailed estimate spread over 23 different heads of accounts is drawn up on page 211, for contesting लोक सभा elections and it concludes as follows:
These 23 points include some very interesting details such as: cost of constituency ticket, muscle-men, expenses on buying independent candidates, rigging & booth capturing expenses, audio-video films, entertainers from Bollywood, expenses on guest voters, expenses on buying opinion polls / election analysts, expenses on buying and entertaining media reporters, expenses on polling and counting days.
Another interesting हकीकत on Page 191:

ON HORSE TRADING

An interesting comment on Horse Trading -

ON CORRUPTION

ON RIOTS, CRIME & INDISCIPLINE

ON BASIC PRINCIPLES OF POLITICS

Basic principles of politics are listed over 23 Points from page 296 to 301. These are so very detailed and specific that only someone like Maloy Ji could cover the subject across the depth and width.

ON FISCAL PRINCIPLES OF POLITICS

Chapter 10 ends with a detailed 13-point Fiscal Principles. It starts with the following words:

ON GOVERNOR POSTING & ROLE

ON EDUCATION

ON BUREAUCRATS

I personally believe that each of the above lines & description from this political fiction & satire are very relevant and close to the current ground reality - not only Bihar, but across IndiaThese are just a few sample quotes from this masterpiece of political-fiction. For a complete overview of what exactly goes on inside the corridors of power, the rules of the political power-play, the dirty tricks of winning an election in the Gangland-Democracy of the "mother-of-all-political battlefield" called Bihar, it surely would be worth spending time going through the complete work.

100,000 KMs on Tata Aria ...

Before I talk about the Tata Aria and my experience of 100,000 KM journey with it, it would be necessary to go back in time and rewind to discuss how I arrived at this mean machine.

Earlier, I drove Tata Safari, about 120,000 KMs. Let us not try to look for any reasons into my fascination with Tata. To put it simple and straight - even today, I am a big fan of Tata Safari.
Moreover, with a large family of Five to drive along, it turned out to be more of a necessity than anything else. Two very significant members of our family needed fairly large space. Zara & Marshal - the wonderful lovely couple of German Shepherd. They both loved being driven around and would jump onto the boot as soon as the rear door is opened; and Zara, would refuse to come out as she wouldn't like to be left behind.
Furthermore, being a family of ‘Nature and Wildlife’ enthusiasts, any opportunity of a small get-away and we prefer to look for an off-road destination.

Lastly, this perennial problem of b…

Half-Colonel-Turned-Journo surmonises on Pathankot

AWOL = Absent Without Official Leave.
The Wikipedia page has since been updated to "delete" AWOL and insert the adjective “Prominent” before Journalist, by none other than the "Half-Colonel-Turned-Journo" himself, as per the latest screenshot below:

This little introduction was needed just to establish & understand the true profile of Half-Colonel-Turned-Journo : Ajai Shukla.

We will be discussing the “expert opinions” of Ajai Shukla, published on two different media platforms as follows:
Why the Pathankot op has gone on for so long Rediff.com Dated 5th Jan. Inept handling by the National Security Advisor transformed what should have been a short counter-terrorist operation in Pathankot into an apparent debacle, argues Ajai Shukla. AND
Ajai Shukla: Between Mr Doval and the deep blue sea Business Standard Dated 4th Jan. Inept handling has transformed what should have been a short counter-terrorist operation in Pathankot i…

Nero’s Guests, the age of inequality: A Review

The reason why I have taken up to write a review of Nero’s Guests is because it needs to be widely circulated, written and talked about, as much as possible; so that everyone gets to see it, those who still do not get the time to watch it, may further need to be motivated to do so, and only then it will reach out to the wider audience and be able to make a real impact.
The mainstream media today is totally degenerated and corrupted as it does not cover anything that is not “breaking news” or that is not considered “glamorous” enough to catch eye balls. For this obvious reason, Nero’s Guests has been completely ignored by the mainstream media (both print & electronic) and is not given its due space & visibility.
The subject itself is not new to any of us and it has become a part of our daily lives - mere statistics. It is about the severe agrarian crisis that the country is faced with, as a result of which farmers are still committing suicide and as many as 200,000 farmers have a…
